Sup't Ford held his third Institute at New Troy, beginning April 20th. Lectures were given by the County Superintendent upon various topics, in eluding Geography, Grammar and Orthography, treating mostly upon methods of teaching them and the use of charts, maps, etc. He also urged the valne of teachers' libraries and the means of getting them. The author adopts the new system of chemical notation and nomenclature, and labors to put his readers in possession of the most advanced views in the science. The metric system of weights and measures is employed, and temperatures are expressed on the centigrade scale. The illustrations are apt and well executed. We regret, however, the absence of the colored plate representing the spectra of the metals, alkalies and Ugg Bailey Button alkaline earths, which forms the frontispiece to the English edition.
